Postpartum Frizz and Flyaway Hairs: Coconut Hair Straightening®︎ for Highlighted Hair | melco HairDesign Okinawa

Hello from melco HairDesign Okinawa!

After giving birth, some people notice changes such as:

“My hair feels wavier than before.”

“I have more short hairs around the surface, and they keep sticking out.”

“Even when I use a flat iron every morning, my hair still doesn’t stay smooth.”

These changes can make everyday styling more difficult.

And if you also have a history of highlights or hair coloring, you may wonder whether hair straightening is safe for your current hair condition.

Today, we would like to introduce a client who was concerned about postpartum waves, short flyaway hairs, and damage in previously highlighted sections.

We treated her hair with Coconut Hair Straightening®︎.

Postpartum Short Hairs and Waves Around the Roots

This client had not received hair straightening for about two to three years.

The newly grown hair around the roots had noticeable waves, and the overall hair tended to expand more easily on humid days.

There were also many shorter hairs around the face and crown that had grown after childbirth.

Because these hairs were different lengths and grew in different directions, they easily lifted away from the surface and created a frizzy, flyaway appearance.

The mid-lengths and ends also had a history of highlights, meaning those areas had accumulated more chemical stress than the newly grown roots.

The Roots and Highlighted Sections Should Not Be Treated the Same Way

With this type of hair condition, treating the entire head with the same formula and technique can place too much stress on the highlighted sections.

Instead, it is important to evaluate each area separately:

  • Newly grown waves around the roots
  • Previously highlighted mid-lengths and ends
  • Shorter hairs around the face and crown

For this client, we used the necessary amount of straightening action on the roots while carefully adjusting the chemical strength for the highlighted areas.

The shorter hairs also required special attention.

Simply straightening them as strongly as possible is not the goal.

We carefully checked their thickness, elasticity, and overall condition while adjusting the amount of heat applied during the ironing process.

Coconut Hair Straightening®︎ Combined With Recrystallization Treatment

For this appointment, we combined Coconut Hair Straightening®︎ with our Recrystallization Treatment.

We straightened the waves around the roots while minimizing unnecessary stress on the previously highlighted mid-lengths and ends.

Our goal was not only to remove the waves.

We also wanted the finished hair to remain soft and naturally connected from roots to ends rather than looking stiff or excessively straight.

The Recrystallization Treatment helped improve the feel of the more damaged ends, leaving the overall hair smoother, shinier, and easier to manage.

A Smoother Surface and More Manageable Hair

After the treatment, the waves around the roots became smoother, and the shorter hairs that had been lifting from the surface became easier to control.

The highlighted ends maintained a soft appearance rather than becoming unnaturally straight or rigid.

Because the hair became easier to manage simply by blow-drying, the amount of time spent using a flat iron every morning can also be reduced.

For parents with young children, finding time for your own hair care can be difficult.

Even making the morning styling routine a little easier can make a meaningful difference in everyday life.

Postpartum Hair Requires Careful Assessment

After childbirth, some people notice more short hairs or feel that their hair behaves differently than before.

However, not every flyaway hair has the same cause.

Some may be newly growing hairs.

Others may lift because of natural waves or curls.

In some cases, short hairs may also be caused by breakage or previous chemical damage.

The cause matters because the appropriate treatment is different in each situation.

If the hair also has a history of highlights or bleaching, it is especially important to evaluate the remaining strength of the hair and separate the areas that can be properly straightened from the areas that should be treated more conservatively.

At melco HairDesign Okinawa, we do not simply aim to straighten the hair as strongly as possible.

We carefully consider each client’s current hair condition, treatment history, and lifestyle.

Our goal is to create hair that is easier to manage in everyday life while avoiding unnecessary additional stress.

If your hair seems to have changed after childbirth, or if you are concerned about hair straightening because you have highlights or colored hair, please feel free to consult with us.

We will carefully evaluate your current hair condition and recommend an appropriate treatment plan.
