Hello from melco HairDesign Okinawa!
“I want to fix all of the frizz and damage in just one appointment.”
If you have struggled with your hair for a long time, it is completely understandable to want an immediate transformation.
However, hair straightening is a chemical process that changes the shape of the hair. No matter how carefully it is performed, straightening cannot be achieved without applying some degree of chemical and thermal stress to the hair.
That is why, depending on the condition of the hair, we sometimes choose not to push the hair too far in a single appointment.
Our priority is not simply to make the hair look perfect immediately.
We want to preserve as much of the hair’s strength as possible and gradually create a smoother, more manageable condition that can be maintained over time.
“I want smoother hair, but I don’t want more damage.”
We often hear concerns such as:
“I want to control the frizz, but I’m worried about damaging my ends.”
“I want shiny, smooth hair, but I don’t want it to become stiff or unnatural.”
When the immediate appearance is prioritized above everything else, already weakened areas of the hair may be exposed to stronger chemicals or more heat than they can safely tolerate.
The hair may look smooth immediately after the service, but if it later becomes stiff, fragile, or prone to breakage, that does not lead to easier everyday hair care.
At melco HairDesign Okinawa, we look beyond the finish on the day of your appointment.
We also consider how your hair will feel and behave afterward.
The Hair Condition Before Treatment
This client had gentle waves throughout the hair, along with fine frizz and flyaways around the surface.
Because the hair was long, the mid-lengths and ends had accumulated more stress from previous coloring and everyday styling.
The strength of the hair near the roots was different from that of the ends.
For this reason, applying the same chemical strength and the same amount of heat from roots to ends would not have been appropriate.
Instead, we adjusted the treatment according to the condition of each area.

We Evaluate the Remaining Strength of the Hair
Once hair has been damaged, it does not naturally return to its original condition.
This is why we do not evaluate only how strong the curl or wave is.
Before Coconut Hair Straightening, we carefully consider factors such as:
- Hair thickness and softness
- Areas that have been previously colored
- Dryness or stiffness at the ends
- Previous chemical treatments
- How much strength remains in each section of the hair
Based on this information, we decide how much straightening is appropriate for that appointment.
For this client, we properly straightened the waves from the roots through the mid-lengths while avoiding unnecessary stress on the more fragile ends.
Rather than trying to achieve everything in one session, we performed the treatment the hair needed now while preserving its condition for future appointments.
Coconut Hair Straightening Does Not Rely Only on Strong Chemicals
Coconut Hair Straightening® is not a technique that simply uses powerful chemicals to force the hair straight.
We first evaluate the condition of the hair and select the appropriate formula.
We then carefully control factors including:
- Chemical strength
- Application area
- Iron temperature
- Iron speed
- The amount of heat applied to the hair
Different formulas may be used for the roots and ends, and areas with less remaining strength are treated more carefully.
Our goal is not only to straighten the hair.
We also want to maintain softness, flexibility, and a natural movement after the service.
Naturally Smoother Hair, Even After Simply Blow-Drying
After the treatment, the surface frizz and overall waves were significantly reduced, creating a smoother and more balanced finish from roots to ends.
Instead of creating an excessively flat or rigid straight style, we preserved the natural softness of the hair.
The result is hair that becomes much easier to manage simply by blow-drying.
When you no longer need to use a flat iron over large sections of your hair every morning, you can also reduce the amount of daily heat exposure.
This can be especially helpful in Okinawa’s humid climate, where frizz and unwanted volume can quickly return.
Spending less time worrying about humidity and styling can make everyday hair care much easier.
Sometimes, Not Straightening Everything at Once Is the Better Choice
Hair straightening and hair improvement do not always have to be completed in a single appointment.
By understanding what the hair can safely handle now and avoiding unnecessary stress, it becomes easier to maintain beautiful, manageable hair over the long term.
At melco HairDesign Okinawa, we care not only about how shiny your hair looks immediately after the service, but also about allowing you to continue enjoying different hairstyles and hair colors in the future.
Sometimes, the better approach is not to change everything at once.
Preserving the strength of the hair and improving it step by step can ultimately lead to longer-lasting, beautiful results.
