Thank you as always for visiting melco HairDesign Okinawa!
About six months after hair straightening, you may start to notice:
“My ends are still straight, but the roots are becoming wavy again.”
“The ends are starting to feel a little dry or tangled.”
Once hair has been chemically straightened, the treated sections generally remain straight. However, new natural hair continues to grow from the roots.
Today, we would like to introduce a maintenance appointment for a client who received Coconut Hair Straightening®︎ at melco HairDesign Okinawa six months ago.

Six Months of New Growth at the Roots
This client had received Coconut Hair Straightening®︎ with us approximately six months earlier.
The previously straightened ends were still beautifully smooth, but around the roots there was about six months of new growth with visible waves.
There was also some slight tangling through the mid-lengths and ends.
When maintaining Coconut Hair Straightening®︎, we do not apply the same chemical strength to the entire length of the hair every time.
In this case, the area that actually needed to be straightened was the newly grown hair around the roots.
The mid-lengths and ends were already straight from the previous treatment, so there was no reason to apply the same strong straightening process again.
Why We Avoid Reprocessing Hair That Is Already Straight
Repeatedly applying straightening chemicals and heat to sections that are already straight can lead to unnecessary stress, stiffness, and deterioration of the hair.
For this reason, we properly straightened the new growth while avoiding unnecessary chemical and thermal stress through the mid-lengths and ends.
It is very common for the condition of the hair to vary significantly from roots to ends.
The roots may consist of newly grown, relatively healthy hair, while the ends may have accumulated stress from coloring, previous straightening, UV exposure, and daily styling.
Although the hair looks like one continuous strand, each section may have a very different amount of remaining strength.
At melco HairDesign Okinawa, we evaluate not only hair thickness and the strength of the waves, but also:
- Previously straightened sections
- Color history
- Damage through the ends
- Hair elasticity
- The condition of each area from roots to ends
We then adjust both the chemical strength and heat application accordingly.
Our goal is not only to straighten the waves, but also to preserve softness through the ends even after repeated maintenance appointments.

Recrystallization Treatment® Is Included in Our Coconut Hair Straightening®︎ Service
At melco HairDesign Okinawa, our Coconut Hair Straightening®︎ service includes a finishing Recrystallization Treatment®.
Recrystallization Treatment® is designed to form water-insoluble crystalline structures inside the hair, creating a foundation that helps the in-bath conditioner you use at home adhere more effectively.
Rather than only making the surface temporarily look smooth, the treatment focuses on improving the internal foundation of hair that has been affected by dryness, humidity, coloring, and other forms of chemical or environmental stress.
For this client, we used the treatment to improve the areas where slight dryness and tangling had started to become noticeable.
This also helps create a condition in which everyday home-care products can work more effectively.
Hair Shape and Hair Texture Need Different Care
With this maintenance service, we addressed two different concerns:
Coconut Hair Straightening®︎ corrected the shape of the newly grown waves at the roots.
Recrystallization Treatment® supported the texture of the mid-lengths and ends.
By combining the two, the finished hair became smooth yet moisturized in feel from roots to ends.
The result was soft, glossy, and naturally manageable hair that settled beautifully even after simply blow-drying.
This is the texture we describe as “Sara-Shito” — silky and smooth, yet soft and moisturized.
Maintaining Softness Even With Repeated Hair Straightening
One of the characteristics of Coconut Hair Straightening®︎ is that we aim to avoid the stiff, overly processed feeling that can sometimes develop after repeated straightening.
Instead of reprocessing the entire length every time, we evaluate what each section actually needs.
By treating the newly grown roots properly while protecting previously straightened areas, we aim to maintain:
- Softness through the ends
- Natural elasticity
- Smooth movement
- Long-lasting shine
- Easier everyday styling
Maintenance is not about starting over from the beginning each time.
It is about preserving the sections that are already in good condition and treating only what has changed.

When Is It Time for Hair Straightening Maintenance?
If you begin to notice:
- Waves returning around the roots
- More volume or frizz in humid weather
- Slight tangling through the ends
- Longer styling time in the morning
- A difference in texture between the roots and ends
it may be time to consider a maintenance appointment.
At melco HairDesign Okinawa, we carefully assess your previous straightening, current damage level, and new growth before deciding how to treat each section.
Our goal is to help you maintain beautiful hair over the long term while avoiding unnecessary damage.
If your roots are beginning to bother you again but your ends are still straight, please feel free to consult with us.
We will recommend a maintenance plan suited to your current hair condition.
