Hello from melco HairDesign Okinawa!
“I had my hair straightened a year ago, so I thought it would still be fine.”
We sometimes hear this from our clients.
It is true that once a section of hair has been chemically straightened, the straight shape remains in that treated section.
However, as time passes, newly grown wavy hair, UV exposure, hair coloring, dryness, and everyday friction can gradually change the overall texture and manageability of the hair.
Today, we would like to introduce a client who had hair straightening at another salon approximately one year ago and received Coconut Hair Straightening®︎ together with our Recrystallization Treatment®.
Even when the ends still look straight, clients may begin to notice:
- New waves growing from the roots
- More frizz in humid weather
- Dry, difficult-to-manage ends
- Longer styling time with a flat iron in the morning
Previously straightened hair does not return to its original curl pattern, but new natural hair continues to grow from the roots.
As the amount of wavy new growth increases, a noticeable difference can develop between the roots and the straightened ends.
Even for people whose natural waves are relatively mild, dryness, humidity, coloring, and environmental stress can make the hair feel larger, rougher, or more difficult to manage.
In other words, the shape of the hair and the texture of the hair are two different concerns.
Creating beautiful straight hair means not only correcting waves, but also considering dryness, softness, shine, and the condition of the ends.
The Client’s Hair Before Treatment
This client had received hair straightening at another salon approximately one year earlier.
The previous straightening was still visible through the ends, but around the roots there was about one year of newly grown natural hair.
There was also some bending caused by regularly tying the hair, which made the root area appear even more uneven.
The ends showed:
- Dryness
- Rough texture
- Stiffness
- Difficulty reflecting shine
This meant that simply straightening the roots would not address every concern.
The newly grown roots and the previously straightened ends required completely different treatment.
If we applied the same straightening process to the entire length, the ends could receive unnecessary additional chemical and heat stress, leading to more dryness or stiffness.

Coconut Hair Straightening®︎ Adjusted for the Roots and Ends
For this appointment, we focused on three important points:
- Properly straightening the newly grown waves at the roots
- Avoiding unnecessary stress on the previously straightened ends
- Creating a natural transition in texture from roots to ends
Hair straightening is not only about making hair perfectly straight.
At melco, we believe the result should also make everyday styling easier and allow the hair to fall smoothly and naturally after blow-drying.
We carefully evaluate hair thickness, curl strength, damage level, and previous chemical history before deciding how much treatment each section needs.
This allows us to create soft, natural-looking straight hair rather than an excessively flat or rigid finish.
Improving Long-Lasting Texture with Recrystallization Treatment®
At melco HairDesign Okinawa, we often combine Coconut Hair Straightening®︎ with our Recrystallization Treatment®.
The two services have different roles.
Coconut Hair Straightening®︎ is used to improve the shape of the hair, including waves, curls, and unwanted volume.
Recrystallization Treatment® is designed to improve the foundation of the hair’s texture, helping create an internal environment where your at-home conditioner and hair care products can work more effectively.
Many conventional salon treatments mainly improve the surface of the hair to create temporary softness and shine.
However, some clients feel that after several shampoos:
“My hair quickly goes back to the way it felt before the treatment.”
The goal of Recrystallization Treatment® is different.
Rather than focusing only on a temporary surface coating, it is designed to improve the internal environment of the hair.
The treatment forms water-insoluble crystalline structures inside the hair, creating a foundation that is less likely to wash away.
This helps support the hair’s strength and creates a better base for the conditioner and hair oil you use at home.
As a result, it becomes easier to maintain a smooth, salon-like texture in everyday hair care.
Who Is Recrystallization Treatment® Recommended For?
This treatment may be especially suitable for clients who are concerned about:
- Dry or rough hair
- Stiffness through the ends
- Difficulty achieving shine
- Salon treatments that seem to disappear quickly
- Maintaining a soft texture after hair straightening
By combining the two services, we address both:
Hair shape with Coconut Hair Straightening®︎
and
Hair texture with Recrystallization Treatment®
Our goal is not simply to remove waves.
We want to help create soft, glossy, manageable straight hair with a texture that is easier to maintain over time.

The Result
After the treatment, the waves around the roots became smoother and the texture transitioned naturally through the entire length.
Because we avoided unnecessary reprocessing through the ends, the hair did not look overly straight or stiff.
The Recrystallization Treatment® also helped improve the dry, rough feel through the ends, leaving them smoother and easier to comb through.
The hair became easier to manage simply by blow-drying, which can also reduce the amount of time needed with a flat iron in the morning.
In Okinawa’s humid climate, spending less time worrying about frizz and unwanted volume can make everyday hair care much easier.
Previously Straightened Hair Still Needs the Right Maintenance
Even if you had hair straightening one year ago, your entire head of hair is no longer in exactly the same condition it was at that time.
New natural hair has grown from the roots, while the ends have continued to experience:
- Hair coloring
- UV exposure
- Friction
- Dryness
- Daily styling
Difficulty managing the hair is not always caused by waves alone.
Dryness, damage, rough texture, and the difference between newly grown roots and older ends can all contribute to frizz and poor manageability.
This is why, at melco HairDesign Okinawa, we combine:
Coconut Hair Straightening®︎ to improve the shape of the hair
with
Recrystallization Treatment® to support the texture of the hair
according to each client’s individual condition.
Our goal is not hair that looks beautiful only on the day of the appointment.
We want to build a better foundation from within the hair so that it also becomes easier to care for at home.
If you are noticing:
- New waves around the roots
- More frizz in humid weather
- Longer morning styling time
- Dryness or stiffness through the ends
please consider Coconut Hair Straightening®︎ combined with Recrystallization Treatment®.
We will carefully review your current hair condition and previous straightening and coloring history before recommending the most appropriate treatment.
