When hair feels dry or damaged, many people first think about getting a hair treatment.
Treatments are very important for improving softness, shine, and overall texture. However, if the main cause of frizz is actually waves, curls, or twisting within the hair itself, a treatment alone may not solve the problem.
Today, we would like to introduce a client whose recurring frizz and waves were treated with Coconut Hair Straightening®.
Why Does Frizz Come Back Even After a Hair Treatment?
Hair treatments are useful for adding moisture, improving shine, and making dry hair feel smoother.
However, when the hair itself naturally bends, waves, or twists, the surface may temporarily feel better while the underlying shape of the hair remains unchanged.
As a result, humidity and perspiration can cause the hair to expand and become frizzy again.

the problem may not be caused by damage alone.
Wavy and curly hair can have bends and twists within each individual strand. When those strands move in different directions, they overlap and create unwanted volume and frizz.
In this situation, repeatedly coating the surface of the hair with treatments may improve the feel of the hair, but the original cause of the frizz can remain.
The important first step is to identify whether the problem comes mainly from:
- Dryness
- Chemical damage
- Natural waves or curls
- Twisting within the hair
- Or a combination of several factors
The Client’s Hair Before Treatment
This client had large waves from the roots through the ends, making it difficult for the hair to fall in the same direction.
Frizz was particularly noticeable through the mid-lengths and ends, with smaller flyaways visible around the surface.
Because the hair had also been colored to a lighter shade, there was some dryness and accumulated stress from previous chemical treatments.
Our goal was to straighten the waves properly while avoiding unnecessary stress on the more delicate ends.
To achieve this, we carefully controlled every step of the service, including the chemical formula, application area, iron temperature, and the amount of time heat was applied to each section.
In This Case, Dryness Was Not the Only Cause of Frizz
Each strand had its own wave and twist, causing the hair to move in different directions.
As the strands overlapped, the overall hairstyle became larger and more difficult to control.
Because of this, we determined that improving only the surface texture with a treatment would not be enough.
The underlying waves also needed to be corrected.
For this client, we performed Coconut Hair Straightening®.
The waves from the roots through the mid-lengths were straightened properly, while the chemical strength and heat application were adjusted for the more fragile, previously colored ends.
Coconut Hair Straightening Is Customized for Different Areas of the Hair
With Coconut Hair Straightening, we do not believe that stronger straightening is always better.
Hair near the roots may have plenty of remaining strength, while the ends may already have accumulated stress from coloring, bleaching, previous straightening, or daily heat styling.
These areas should not necessarily be treated in exactly the same way.
We evaluate the condition of each section and use only the amount of chemical and thermal power necessary.
This allows us to straighten the hair while helping preserve its natural softness and flexibility.
Our goal is not to create stiff, unnaturally straight ends.
Instead, we aim for smooth hair that still has softness, movement, and a natural-looking finish.
By continuing to adjust each appointment according to the condition of the hair, it becomes easier to maintain beautiful results even when hair straightening is repeated over time.
Smoother Hair That Is Easier to Manage After Blow-Drying
After the treatment, the direction of the hair became much more uniform from roots to ends, and the overall frizz was significantly reduced.
Because we corrected the waves inside the hair rather than simply creating shine on the surface, the hair also became easier to manage after blow-drying.
The ends did not look excessively stiff or flat.
Instead, the finish remained soft, smooth, and naturally glossy.
For clients who normally straighten their entire head with a flat iron every morning, having more manageable hair can significantly reduce daily styling time.
This is especially helpful in Okinawa’s humid climate, where hair can easily expand again after stepping outside.
Less time fighting frizz can make everyday hair care much easier.

This does not mean that hair treatments are unnecessary.
Treatments remain an important part of maintaining softness, shine, and a healthy-looking texture.
However, when the main cause of frizz is the natural shape, wave, or twist of the hair, correcting that shape first may make your everyday hair care much easier.
Afterward, continuing with the appropriate hair care can help maintain the condition and feel of the hair.
